Orlando Voyager Magazine Interview With Alissa Harvey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alissa Harvey. Hi Alissa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?

My name is Alissa Harvey and I am the owner and CEO of Lavishly Events Décor & Drape LLC, specializing in Luxury Draping and Design based out of Orlando, FL. The dynamics of the journey that led me to becoming an entrepreneur in the Event Planning and Decor/Design Industry began in my early childhood. Needless to say, there has been many barriers along the way however due to me being raised by two hard-working parents and a sibling whom were also entrepreneurs intrigued my interest to do the same.

My mother Roxie Randall, knew that I was different and unique in my own way when other children were outside being children while I was inside creating designs, setting the dinner table as well as planning out entertainment for our friends and family each time they visited our home only at the age of six. My greatest passion has always been bringing joy to the people around me and watching the smile of excitement when our guests would enter into the world of my creative aspirations. My mom always told me that I had a “sense of creativity that was far outside of the average box.” I didn’t quite understand what that meant at that time but today it’s crystal clear to me that this woman had planted my destiny… all of my future endeavors… my greatest pleasure in life into the universe 30 years ago.

My desire to pursue what she predicted in my adulthood is what contributed to my success today. Unfortunately, both of my parents are deceased, as I lost my dad at the age of six and my mom at the age of 17 years old. Needless to say, I had to search deep within myself to pick up the pieces and find happiness all over again in my life in spite of all of the odds being against me. My happiness was found again in making others happy. My husband, my children and many friends and family have been my biggest supporters in encouraging me to do what I love to do and I won’t stop pushing forward until I reach the top. Decorating for family gatherings at our home was a continuation of those childhood desires however, the only difference this time was I started and I kept going, growing, expanding my knowledge and putting it into action. In the beginning of my ventures into becoming an Event Decor Designer, I discovered that I had an enormous amount of doubt and more than plenty moments of uncertainty wondering how my work would be perceived by others. I certainly had moments of feeling vulnerable by the thoughts of letting others into my deepest passion of creativity, not knowing if this “different” girl would be accepted into society with her exquisite taste and bouts of wit. I quickly realized that your success only lies in the hands of the beholder.

Your success is determined solely on passion. How passionate you are about what you do is the determining factor for your success. I’ve recently made the decision to leave my Corporate Career to pursue my passion full-time and it has been nothing short of amazing thus far. Thank You for taking this journey with me and I hope that my story could be just the encouragement you need to push forward.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

I definitely faced many obstacles and challenges along the way. I didn’t have the experience and/or financial means that other professionals had to start my journey. It required me to do an extensive amount of research to understand the steps to begin and I’ve invested a large amount of my savings to finance the start of my business, not knowing what the outcome would be and if my work would meet the expectations set out before me. I would say that I jumped all the way out on the limb not knowing if it would uphold or break. I love doing what I do, so I would do it all over again a million times.

Lavishly Events Décor & Drape LLC was founded by my husband Glenville and I in 2019 based out of Orlando, FL. We currently have a Team of awesome individuals with all diverse backgrounds to help assist in bringing the visions alive on behalf of our Lavishly Team. We specialize in Luxury Decor and Designs for any events, including Weddings, Baby Showers, Gender Reveals, Birthday Parties and Corporate Events, just to name a few. What sets us apart from others starts with the Lavish Experience that we provide to our clients. It starts from the time you inquire about our service and lasts far past the end of your event as we grow very close business relationships with our clients, which is a result of the many reasons our business thrives on client referrals and repeat business. No matter how big or how small the event maybe you will always receive superb Customer Service and an enormous amount of lasting memories of your event. I am most proud of the name that we have set out for ourselves as a result of hard work, dedication, an enormous amount of passion and most importantly the visions that we’ve created for our events. What does success mean to you?

Success is not defined by the dollar amount it’s defined by the emotional gains that you receive when you have made someone else happy as a result of your talents and abilities. This type of success brings me true value to what I do.
